New metadata implementation needs changes

The problem is not so much the data, as it is the way it’s handled:

• Having the date fields linked to the metadata fields makes it impossible to edit a whole season/show after the fact, without changing the date of the episodes collected, and that is annoying to say the least

• Having the metadata mandatory is not everyone’s cup of tea, some people, like me, want their library with as much information they can (for example i use that to decide if I want to get a better copy of a movie I already have (4k instead of 1080p, better audio, etc) so I do fill those metadata fields anyway but for shows, I add the episodes with the Plex scrobbler, and that does not carry over format/res/audio to trakt, so I usually collect a complete season, then go to the season page, and change the metadata here for the whole season. Now with the new feature that can’t be done properly, because the date fields are linked and changing the metadata implies changing the collected date.
  
  Moreover some people just want to collect the show, etc without more info and as the original poster here, couldn’t care less about the format, res, audio format.. That is not my case, but I can respect their choice there, and this newest feature takes the choice from them

  So what can Trakt do:

• Go back to separate date fields from metadata fields for one, (or at the very least add a ‘keep existing date’ button in the date fields)

• Make the metadata filling optional, but keep the format/resolution mandatory for those that DO edit the metadata field

• Add a default setting for the metadata fields in user settings (I for one would find that useful, 95% of my new items are Digital, 1080p, AAC, 5.1, so having that set as default would save me time when I edit the metadata fields

I understand these changes have been implemented for users requiring better libraries (especially those that do have a lot of physical media), but the implementation needs to be reviewed to cater to the needs of those that’s don’t care about it, or those like me, that do care but want it to be done on their terms (the collected date changing for a whole season, is especially grating)

Anyway that was my 2 cents about that very annoying change
