Currently, Trakt treats TV shows primarily as a single entity when it comes to lists and overall ratings.
However, modern television is consumed and evaluated on a season-by-season basis, especially with long gaps between releases.
The Problem
Lists only support full shows, not individual seasons
Difficult to organize “Best of the Year” lists accurately
No clean way to separate seasons released in different years
Overall show ratings don’t reflect variation in quality between seasons
Why This Matters
TV is no longer one continuous experience—it’s broken into distinct seasonal releases.
Examples:
A show releases Season 1 in 2024 and Season 2 in 2026
Users want Season 1 in a “Best of 2024” list
Users want Season 2 in a “Best of 2026” list
Right now, this isn’t possible without awkward workarounds.
Also, many shows vary heavily in quality between seasons. Treating them as one unit reduces accuracy and user expression.
Suggested Solution
Allow individual seasons to be:
Added to custom lists
Ranked independently
Enable:
Season-specific ratings (separate from overall show rating)
Optional aggregation into a show-level score
Add filters for:
“Season-based view” vs “Show-based view”
Ensure seasons can appear in different yearly or themed lists independently
Impact
This would modernize how Trakt handles TV and align it with how users actually consume content today.
