We’re testing a smarter way to sort your Up Next — not just by air date, completeness or number of plays, but by what you're most likely to watch next.

What we're trying to mix is:

  • Your recent watch habits

  • Show popularity and freshness

  • The size of gaps in your progress

    For shows in Continue Watching, you can separate them into two categories, if they’re currently airing or not. I think that all currently-airing shows should be put at the top of Continue Watching, then after that, the rest of the shows are listed, in order of most recently watched.

    And for Start Watching, there should be an option to change the sort order.

    Factoring in what’s actually available for me to stream on my available services would be essential.

    Sounds good, but I would still like to have the old sorting options back and have this smart sorting as a (default) option.

    A manual way to mark “do not prioritize this” would be great. Having trakt available for a rewatch is fantastic, but sometimes that rewatch is more of an every other weekend or when the mood hits sort of thing and you just want that bookmark. Instead, your progress on a show appears at the top of your Up Next just because it was the latest series you started from the beginning even if you had marked that show as watched previously. It will continue to appear there for quite some time with no interaction, even when you are frequently watching the current season shows. Having shows like that be forced to the bottom of the list would be great.

    I binge watch shows once the season has finished airing so it would be great to have those shows at the top of Up Next, or be able to sort by the Season Finale date.

    I have many available services, but I churn amongst them every month and binge watch. So being able to select services - like the VIP list filter feature - would make your smarter up next even smarter…

    Don’t mind this, but only as an option at the moment it seems to be baked in (iOS app) and it’s super annoying trying to find the show just aired, as it’s not at the top anymore.

    The question is, smarter for whom? At the very least please give us back the options to sort by various methods so that we’re in control of how our Up Next page is visualized. And PLEASE allow us to filter and fade like we used to.

    Up Next I believe is mostly based on what is in watchlist, which I personally treat as things I want to watch either for the first time or again, so Up Next for me would make most sense if at the start of it would be released titles that I haven’t seen yet (can be in your smart proposed way) followed by everything I have seen based on date I last seen it with oldest seen media at front.
