🚀 Trakt Product Update – October 2026

Since our last update, several things from “what’s next” are now done: adding seasons and episodes to lists, managing collaborators on lists, separating main and supporting cast, and attaching GIFs to comments. We’ve also been improving Smart Lists, rebuilding Plex Sync, and making it easier to build apps with Trakt.

See what’s changed, what you can try, and what’s taking shape across the Trakt ecosystem.

👥 Find your next watch through people you follow

Today brings together what the people you follow have been watching, rating, and discussing. Open it from the top bar, browse the activity, or move through it as stories. It’s another place to find something worth watching through people whose taste you know.

We’re also making shared recommendations easier to remember. When you share a title from Trakt, the link includes a share code identifying you. When someone opens it, Trakt remembers who shared that title with them and shows “Shared by…” as a reminder when they return to it.

📚 Build lists your way

Adding seasons and episodes to lists is back. Save a favorite season, collect standout episodes, or put together a viewing order that mixes movies and episodes.

You can add people who follow you as collaborators on a list, and they can add or remove items alongside you. Useful for a shared movie night list or deciding what to watch together.

The “Add from your lists” option lets you bring movies and shows over from another of your lists, including your Watchlist, in batches.

Open your lists →

🧠 Let your lists keep themselves up to date

You can now edit an existing Smart List. Change the filters as your interests change, without starting again.

Smart Lists can also use your Watchlist, Library, or Recommendations as their source. And when you’ve filtered a discovery page, your Watchlist, or Library into something you’d like to revisit, you can create a Smart List directly from those filters.

With a personal list, you choose each title. With a Smart List, you set the rules, and Trakt automatically keeps matching titles up to date.

🎭 Find the cast you’re looking for

We’ve improved cast information to make the distinction between main and supporting cast more accurate.

You can now switch between main cast and supporting cast to find the person you’re looking for. These data improvements are also available through our API, so all apps depending on Trakt can offer clearer, more accurate cast information.

💬 Share how it made you feel

Sometimes you just want to leave a 👍, share a 🤣, or say a movie left you 💔. Emoji reactions give you a quick way to express how a movie or show made you feel, without choosing a rating or writing a review.

Comments and reviews now support GIFs, and the text editor makes formatting, quotes, and spoiler tags easier to add.

📅 Plan your watching

VIP members can subscribe to their Trakt Calendar in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook, or another calendar app. Choose your movies, shows, premieres, finales, and filters before copying or opening the subscription link.

VIP members can also try the redesigned Calendar, with updated date navigation and filtering. We’re still checking the details across different screens and schedules.

🔄 Keep your Plex watching in sync

Plex Sync setup has been completely rebuilt under the hood to provide a clearer, smoother, and more reliable experience.

The guided flow walks you through choosing your server, profile, and libraries, helps prevent configuration errors, and lets you control which history, ratings, collection, and Watchlist data to sync. You can also check server status and recent sync activity from the same settings.

📱 Enjoy a more consistent Trakt across devices

We’re bringing more of these improvements to our native apps too, so the features you rely on feel consistent across the web, iOS, and Android, with controls that feel at home on each platform.

Recent updates to both iOS and Android add movie and show reactions, GIFs, richer comment formatting, and more filtering options, bringing more ways to discover and share to whichever device you use.

🔭 Get ready to look back on 2026

Work has started on Year in Review 2026, including new ways to look back at your watching and share it. It’s still in development; we’ll have more to show closer to the end of the year. It’s going to be legen—wait for it...

🫵 Tell us what you think

That’s what’s new across Trakt this month. Try the updates, explore a side quest, and tell us what you think in the replies. If you’re building something with Trakt, we’d love to see that too.

🚀 Trakt Product Update – Summer 2026 Edition

Track, Discover, Share brings together what Trakt is for: keeping your watching history, finding your next favorite, and sharing it with others. This summer, we’ve been making those everyday parts of Trakt easier to use, while giving you more ways to make it your own.

Grab your 🍿 for what’s changed, what you can try, and where we’re headed.

⚡ Fewer steps to get things done

Press / or Cmd+K to search for a movie, show, or page within Trakt. You can find your next destination without a single click. Open Trakt and try it →

Reordering a long list no longer means dragging an item all the way through it. Type the position you want, or move an item straight to the top or bottom. Open your lists →

▶️ Find your next watch faster

Progress now separates “Up to date” from “Ended.” Shows you’re caught up on have their own view, separate from shows you’ve finished that have ended or been canceled. Check your progress →

Calendar and Releases now let you filter for premieres and finales. Use them to find what’s starting or wrapping up without browsing every release. Open Calendar · Browse Releases

⚖️ More ways to decide what to watch

Ratings now include Letterboxd for movies and MyAnimeList for anime, where available. Open the ratings breakdown to compare sources; Letterboxd appears in that expanded view. See the ratings for Princess Mononoke →

We’ve also updated the Where to Watch panel. It brings the available streaming options into a revised layout when you’re ready to pick a service. Find where to watch Princess Mononoke →

🔧 The smaller things that add up

We’ve fixed several causes of unexpected sign-outs, loading errors, and import problems, along with watched labels, season progress counts, and hard-to-see poster badges. These are the small things you notice when they get in your way. If you’re still running into them, please keep sending us examples.

Before clearing data, removing duplicate plays, or deleting your account, Trakt now offers to export your data first. That option is on by default, and an incomplete export prompts you again before continuing. Duplicate cleanup also lets you choose which play to keep. Open your data settings →

We’re also bringing more of everything to our mobile apps. iOS updates added richer ratings, season details, widget progress bars, and fixes for past-date tracking and freezes; recent Android work includes widgets, a light theme, Smart List creation, and an updated watched-date picker. • List counts: see how many items a list contains and how many lists are in a section.

  • Reviewer stats: see how much of a title someone has watched alongside their review rating.

These are previews, so the details may change. Tell us which ones help and where something still feels awkward. Try Preview Features →

🚀 Trakt Product Update – June & Mid-July 2026

Six weeks, one clear theme: making Trakt more connected, more personal, and more dependable wherever you use it.

Since the start of June, we’ve filled important gaps in V3, added richer stats and social context, improved lists and discovery, shipped updates on Apple platforms, and moved our Android app forward.

We also moved quickly to welcome people coming from TV Time. We improved our import tools to bring over what matters most: history, ratings, and lists.

🧭 Web V3: the last mile

When we redirected free members to V3 in March, we kept the previous web experience available to VIP members while we brought over more advanced workflows and continued polishing V3.

June and the first half of July were about closing that gap.

In our last Product Roundup, we said our goal was to make V3 the default for VIP members by the end of June. We missed that target. The extra time went into moving more account and service management directly into V3, including subscription controls, connected apps, Plex-related settings, account deletion, and profile settings.

We’ve also kept working through your feedback about desktop workflows, filters, navigation, lists, calendars, progress, and history. We’re now watching new reports closely and fixing rough edges as they surface.

With those pieces in place, V3 is the default web experience for everyone. That’s a big milestone. But it isn’t the end of the work. We now have one modern foundation to improve instead of splitting that effort across two web experiences.

📦 Welcoming the TV Time community

When TV Time announced that its service would shut down on July 15, many people suddenly needed a safe way to preserve years of viewing activity. We made that migration an immediate priority.

The Trakt importer can read a TV Time GDPR export and bring across:

  • Watched history, including watch dates where the export provides them

  • Watchlist items

  • Ratings where available

  • Multiple export formats, including imperfect or incomplete variations

  • Match choices for items that can’t be identified confidently

We also added clearer progress and reporting tools, support for larger exports, and several rounds of fixes based on real files shared through support. If an import doesn’t look right, you can report it directly. That gives us what we need to inspect the mismatch and keep improving the importer.

There are a few caveats. Continue Watching might look different because the two services calculate it differently. Anime season structures can vary between databases, and some exports are missing reliable IDs. Keep your original export somewhere safe, review your all-time totals after importing, and report anything that looks off.

🌐 More control and context on the web

The web app gained a lot of depth over the past six weeks. Rather than list every small change, here are the improvements you’re most likely to notice.

Lists, progress, and everyday actions

  • Manually reorder your watchlist and custom lists

  • Sort and filter Progress, lists, credits, and library views more consistently

  • Rate an item directly from history and open dedicated history views for episodes

  • Preview “watch until here,” drop a show from more places, and jump to the current episode faster

  • Clear your library when you need a clean reset

  • VIP preview: see favorites by year and use smarter sorting in Continue Watching

Richer show, season, and episode pages

  • Explore season progress, information, and reviews without losing context

  • Find more useful history, ratings, and release details in episode drawers

  • See clearer ratings breakdowns, including season-by-season quality charts

  • Find people, trivia, and social context in more places throughout the experience

Stats, social, and discovery

  • Screen Time shows your last seven days of watching, including peak hours and useful stat cards

  • All Time Stats, Month in Review, and Year in Review now feel more at home inside V3

  • Activity and follow requests are easier to find, with more context about who’s watching or rating something

  • The Releases calendar surfaces premieres, finales, and new releases more clearly

  • “Why this?” explanations and Smart Related controls, currently in VIP preview, make recommendations feel less like a black box

The V3 web app is open source, and our work happens in public. You can follow issues, pull requests, and the conversations around them on GitHub.

🤖 Android and Android TV

Work on Android followed many of the same themes as web and iOS:

  • Viewing streaks, Profile Activity, Screen Time, and All Time Stats

  • Native user profiles, follower activity, follow requests, and social screens

  • Personal-list reordering, sorting controls, and public/private lists

  • Dedicated media-history views and Android TV history management

  • Better watched-date, Watch Again, and active-episode behavior

  • Updated sharing links and Trakt social-image templates

  • More accurate creator, credit, and history information

  • In-app updates and a broad set of interface fixes

🔌 API and platform work

The Trakt API powers our own apps and thousands of community-built apps, media-center plugins, watch apps, and integrations. We love that. And we’ve been working behind the scenes to make that shared foundation more dependable.

Large accounts can now synchronize watched history in smaller, more predictable pieces. That means fewer timeouts and more reliable syncing for everyone. Read about the sync improvements →

Our API documentation also has a new home at docs.trakt.tv. It’s easier to explore, test, and keep current, giving developers a stronger starting point for future Trakt-powered experiences.

🔭 What we’re focused on next

Here’s where our attention goes next:

  • Keep hardening V3 and fix the workflows that still feel less complete

  • Improve import matching, reporting, and recovery for unusual exports

  • Bring web, iOS, and Android closer together without forcing every platform into the same shape

  • Refine Releases, Calendar, Progress, Continue Watching, and history based on how people actually use them

  • Keep improving reliability, accessibility, and performance alongside visible features

🎬 That’s a wrap

There’s still plenty to improve. And your reports keep shaping what we fix and build next. Thank you for testing, challenging, and helping us make Trakt better.

See you in the next roundup 👋
