Upgrade the v3 Progress Page

The progress page has been brought back to v3, but it’s missing many essential features and information we loved about it on v2. Actually, there was a nice visual mockup created by Justin that would meet most of these: Here are some user voices regarding the progress page: The Progress page is the one place on the website you can find all of the shows that you’ve ever watched in order, easily see season by season progress, maybe you’re looking into rewatching something of old that you’ve already seen - it’s easily accessible with only a few clicks. The sorting and filtering on the Progress page is also very useful, yes, as is the progress bars and the “Watched percentage”, Time Left To Watch and Total Amount of Shows at the top of the page. It’s all in the details, at least for me. Such a page is a blessing in disguise. The complete absence of the Progress Page, which is my most visited, is absurd because I like seeing more direct details than Up Next provides. I like being able to instantly sort so I can see what’s next, but also then get a quick idea of what has the least time, change the sorts and see views without having to go deep into Settings to change my Up Next for two seconds and then change it back to what I’d like for my Default. Use cases: Recommending a series to a friend Sort by Watched date descending Go over everything I recently finished or am currently watching and see if it matches what they're looking for. Sort by popularity Go over everything I've watched or things I'm keeping my eye on Looking for something to watch Sort by time left ascending When I want something short to binge over the weekend. By having both watchlist items and shows I've already watched, I can either choose to pick up a new series or actually finish something that I dropped before. Sort by most episodes or time left descending Maybe I'm ready for a bigger commitment and want to start chipping away at that series with 12 seasons that I wanted to watch and never got to. Catching up with recent episodes Sort air date descending This way I can quickly catch up with series that are coming back from a hiatus or recently released seasons, even if I haven't watched them recently. Useful to catch series from streaming services that drop whole seasons at a time. Sort by time left Quickly see the most recent episodes of series I'm caught up with. Very useful to keep up to date with series that release episodes weekly.

Make “Watch Again/Add Additional Play options” the default action when tapping the Track Button on Prev. Watched Items

The current setup of “Remove All Plays” being the default action tied to the “Track” button on previously watched items is weird/counter-intuitive and presents a major risk of deleting watches by accident/mistake. It’d be much better to move this action to another sub-menu or setting and make the default option logging an additional play at current time or bringing back the pop up menu with multiple options like in the old interface. — Additional Context — I know this was how it worked in the old interface too to an extent, but at least the site had a button to add an additional play nested button right there and the mobile app opened a pop-up menu with all the options to pick from by default instead. As-is, its even more railroad-y. From a UX perspective, the current behavior bothers me because intuitively the Track button is the most important element in the app – Its the primary function for this service – and when you watch something its intuitively what you’re supposed to tap. But when re-watching something, this design works against you because you will likely will go to tap the button out of habit then you might catch yourself but you also might tap it by mistake then need to back out and go to the other menu anyway. Worst-case you aren’t paying attention and accidentally delete your prev. plays by mistake. Furthermore, I don’t understand the logic of having “Remove All Plays” being a function that needs such immediate/quick access as being tied to the primary action button of the app. This is such a consequential function that is completely opposite to the usual behavior of the button (logging watches). Why isn’t this an option that’s separated in a sub menu like other mass history operations/settings changes? Is there a major subset of Trakt users that need to frequently/immediately delete huge swaths of their history with one button push?

Allow Seeing Traditional Air Date in Calendar

Some episodes air earlier on online platforms than on traditional TV, which is considered their “traditional air date.” v2 only used this date, and it wasn’t an issue. However, v3 no longer allows marking unaired items as watched. Therefore, some people had already seen items they could not mark as watched. Trakt’s response to this was replacing the traditional air date with the date of the earliest release on any platform. That solved the aforementioned issue, but also annoys some users (like here) because they cannot find the TV air dates in their calendars anymore. The solution to this would be a setting for users to choose if they want to see the traditional TV air date or the effective earliest release date in their calendar.

Bring Back "Search History" as search start page in Mobile App

I appreciate the default search page in the V3 app collecting trending/popular shows and movies as potential items to tap on right away but for someone like me who’s not watching or interested in any of these items (or just not watching them right now) its just a hold-up/extra barrier to finding what I’m looking for compared to V2 where my recent searched/viewed items were right there reflecting my actual interests/potential watches. As such, would be nice to have the option to bring this feature back and show my recent searches like in v2. That way I don’t have to look up the same thing multiple times when I know I’m about to watch something or end up watching something I had looked up earlier. This doesn’t need to be a either/or feature. Could be something where the page is split between trending and recent searches or maybe add a toggle in the app settings somewhere to pick which you’d rather see. Or maybe move the trending/popular items to its own tab instead of being baked into the search page. But this would be an extremely beneficial feature to get back in V3. Other use-cases include: Not remembering the title of a movie/show but being able to find it in my search results Seeing a movie in the theater and being able to queue it up in my search history before I turn off my phone so I can log it right away once the film is over Just seeing a history of what movies I’ve been looking at lately when trying to find something to watch or reccommend later on as a quicker alternative to going through my watchlist

Full-featured ratings page

To see your own ratings was recently implemented as part of the Activity section on your profile. Unfortunately, the functionality of this is too limited. Opening the Activity only shows a popup with a chronological list of ratings, without any way to filter or sort. Ratings should have a dedicated page, like History, giving more space to show your ratings and different options to present them, like filtering by genre, rating time – or ordering by time or rating. e.g. I often use the rating page in V2 to see what I’ve recently rated or what are my best or worst ratings, overall or in a specific genre. As far as I can tell, there’s currently no way in V3 to answer the question “what are my highest-rated titles?”, which I feel is an essential feature for a tracking website.

Adding Actionable and Interesting Statistics

So I love the stats available in the year end recap or the monthly recap pages, but the new stats added to the profile page are just kind of boring and not useful. I mean, it's great to see how much time I'm wasting away in front of the TV each day, but I think the stats can be more actionable (or maybe I just don't get how I'm supposed to utilize the current stats 🤷‍♂️ ) So here is a list of stats that I find interesting and would like to see readily available on my profile page (as opposed to waiting for the end of the month recap): (Used to exist) All Time – Shows Watched in Days/Hours/Min and Total Shows and total Episodes (Used to exist) All Time – Movies Watched in Days/Hours/Min and total movies and total watches Total count on the Library (Movies and Shows, custom and Plex). Can probably be just added into the icon of this section? Or placed at the top of the page when you click into the page. Total count on the little icon under "Activity" to show how many comments and how many ratings I've done (alt ratings suggestion below) A graph of all my ratings, similar to how Letterboxd does. Each bar in the graph could be clickable to a sorted list of things I've rated at that level. Or maybe a line chart of my recent ratings to show the trends in watching bad movies or good movies. I like the current "Daily Screen Time" widget. Maybe add a second one, or just a small line of text "Most frequently watching something at 9pm on Saturdays". This day/time could come from the last 30 or 60 days average. Top 5 TV show genres and top 5 Movie genres. It would be awesome if these were clickable and took me to the Discover page pre-filtered (maybe popular? or trending?) so I can find more of what I like. Top 5 TV show and top 5 Movie “Topics”. Topics as seen in the new “user match” preview. IDK where those “Topics” are generated from, but I would love to see that. Favorite service/provider. I know I can select my preferred streaming platforms, but that's just a list of what I'm subscribed to. My thinking here is that this would instead show simply the top platform, or top 3, that I actually watch stuff on. If I have like 5 subscriptions, I would find out quickly that I can probably drop 1 or 2 since I don't watch anything on them, lol. For the most part, the feeling I get when I look at the existing stat blocks is that I'm reading the same thing said 8 different ways. I can see my Daily Screen Time, and then look to the right and I'm told my screen time again as an average, and then again but as a percentage, and then again but it's a total. It's confusing because I know y'all have so much other interesting info on me at this point, lol, and I just know it can be used to help me find more unique and relevant media to me.

Update List Filter Options

I know this has been requested mutiple times, a I’ve upvoted those, but most of them pertain to the personal library. If the filters get updated at all, hopefully they’ll get implemented everywhere, but this post is specifically about Lists (personal and others). The simple and advanced filters are pretty useless to me right now (and to many others it would seem). Specifically the filters I would like to see implemented are to: Hide or Show In Library Rated Released (v3 currently has “availability” but that is only useful if a streaming service is currently showing my move/show) Currently Airing Ended / Canceled Notes (pending the addition of notes to v3) A secondary issue I have with the existing v3 filter options is that they are not reversable. For example, if I filter “Availability” to “My Favorites” it will show me only the movies/shows streaming on my favorite services. But I have no way to reverse this and hide “My Favorites” so that instead I’m seeing only things not on my favorite streaming services. So in a nutshell, more useful filters for Lists in general, and reversable filters to “hide” or “show” based on the filter picked.
